After pioneering the microbatch-style collaborations that cigar hobbyists now know and love in 2010 with the Microblend Series, Smoke Inn partnered with Drew Estate for The Pope of Greenwich Village in 2015, marking the milestone 10th release in the series. The cigars drew inspiration from Drew Estate founder Jonathan Drew's Manhattan upbringing, where the 1984 film of the same name takes place.
Bringing the cigar to life, Smoke Inn and Drew Estate handed over the reins to Drew Estate Master Blender, Willy Herrera, marking one of his first blends after taking the position the year prior. Willy tapped into Drew Estate's famed tobacco vaults of Nicaragua, Brazil, and the Connecticut River Valley, topping the multinational recipe with a toothy Mexican San Andrés wrapper. Additionally, the cigars were rolled in an elegant 6" x 40 panatela format, a vitola rarely seen from Drew Estate.
The Pope of Greenwich Village now returns in its original size and format for the 2022 season, being limited to only 800 bundles of 10 cigars. But while the experience holds true, the cigars boast an all-new bundle design, donning the imagery of Manhattan's notorious pigeon and the 2022 release signifier.
