When Steve Saka, owner/founder of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, set out to craft the "world’s first luxury pipe tobacco cigar," he pulled out all the stops, ensuring the product would meet the high standards of pipe and cigar hobbyists alike. This includes joining in on the annual traditions of pipe culture, such as releasing a one-off experience to tie into the holiday season.
That's right, it's the second annual release of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust's sought-after StillWell Star Holiday blend, going by the title "StillWell Star Holiday Y2023" for the 2023 festivities! As with former StillWell releases, Saka has partnered with Cornell & Diehl—one of the world's leading pipe tobacco companies—to showcase a unique combination of cigar and pipe tobaccos fitting of the holiday season. For the 2023 blend, this included a selection of Cavendish burley, Golden Virginia, and Red Virginia pipe tobaccos, being rolled in the filler alongside Nicaraguan leaves. This core was bound in a Mexican San Andrés leaf and finished with a clean, golden-hued Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper (a first for the StillWell Star line).
With former StillWell Star cigars using Habano wrappers, the Y2023 takes on more delicate characteristics, offering a mild-plus intensity and lightly zesty notes of baking spices, sugarcane, and clean cedar. As an aromatic pipe blend, there are additional flavors and aromas of citrus, caramel, and vanilla. Like the 2022 release, the StillWell Star Holiday Y2023 is highly limited (3,500 boxes of 13), and is not expected to last long on store shelves.
