With the Overseas project by Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, Steve Saka opens a new chapter—one written not for the U.S. market, but for cigar lovers abroad. The first release in the series is dubbed Overseas No. 1, being crafted to bring Saka’s small-batch sensibility to an international audience that’s often left waiting on the sidelines. It’s a blend pulled from the same obsessive mindset behind Muestra de Saka, but aimed squarely beyond American shores.
Rolled at the famed Joya de Nicaragua factory, Overseas No. 1 is a 6" x 50 toro wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano leaf, with a Mexican San Andrés negro binder and a filler blend from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania (the latter being described as a thick, gritty Seedleaf). The result is medium-full-bodied but balanced, opening with bold hits of dark chocolate and espresso, then shifting into cedar, black pepper, and a sweet-spicy finish. The coiled cap adds a handcrafted touch to what is otherwise a clean, focused presentation.
While Overseas was built for international distribution, U.S. hobbyists won’t be left out entirely—Smoke Inn has secured a limited allotment of Overseas No. 1 cigars, making this rare release accessible stateside (it had to be done!). This project shows that great cigars travel well, and Saka’s still shaping the conversation wherever his cigars are smoked.
