Few names in premium cigars carry the legacy of Montecristo, and this year marks a milestone: nine decades since the brand’s creation in Cuba in 1935. To celebrate, the brand has unveiled the Montecristo 90th Anniversary cigar, a small-batch release crafted by Plasencia Cigars in Nicaragua. Alongside the cigars, a limited collector’s humidor set (complete with a handmade BRM timepiece, poker accessories, and a custom watch winder) underscores the brand’s dedication to heritage and luxury.
The 90th Anniversary arrives in two formats: the No. 2 (6⅛” x 52), a torpedo that mirrors the size of the original Montecristo No. 2, and the Nacional (5½” x 56), a modern nod to today’s preference for heftier ring gauges. Both sizes feature a meticulously aged, all-Nicaraguan blend sourced from Estelí, Condega, Ometepe, and Jalapa (where the wrapper was grown), sourced from Plasencia’s most prized reserves.
Expect a refined, medium-full-bodied profile that evolves from start to finish, including sweet cedar, roasted almond, dark cocoa, pepper, and mineral-rich earth, all carried by a smooth, structured balance from start to finish. Presented in luxury-class boxes, the Montecristo 90th Anniversary is both a celebration of history and a nod to Montecristo’s enduring place in the modern humidor.
