J.C. Newman Yagua draws its inspiration from 1940s pre-embargo Cuba, where tobacco farmers without access to cigar molds would improvise by bundling freshly rolled cigars in strips of royal palm, known as yagua. As the cigars rested, the palm pressed them together, giving each one its own rustic and completely unique shape.
Inspired by stories from Lazaro Lopez, General Manager of J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory, Yagua recreates the cigars his grandfather enjoyed in Cuba. The blend features Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos wrapped in a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, with the cigars bundled in yagua palm while still wet to create their unmistakable pressed appearance.
Now available in both its original size and a new Robusto, J.C. Newman Yagua delivers a medium to medium-plus profile filled with notes of rain-soaked earth, pepper, oak, sweet molasses, and chocolate. Rustic, flavorful, and unlike nearly anything else on the market, Yagua offers a true taste of old-world cigarmaking tradition.
