Southern Draw Cigars is based out of Austin, Texas and owned by the Holt family. Robert Holt—a military veteran—and his wife Sharon founded their company on the pillars of faith, family, honor, and respect. These core beliefs can be felt through the cigars they make.
When Southern Draw Cigars comes out with a new release, you can expect deep references to three things: faith, family, and flowers. With Jacobs Ladder, perhaps the company's most highly acclaimed release to date, the name recalls a flowering plant native to Europe. It is also a reference to the biblical story of Jacob, son of Issac, in the Old Testament. Finally, Jacobs Ladder refers to Ethan “Jacob” Holt, son of Robert and Sharon Holt, who now works for Southern Draw Cigars.
Like all blends in the SD portfolio, Jacobs Ladder is made in Nicaragua at the AJ Fernández factory. The cigar has the unique statistic of being draped in a dark Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper (as opposed to the usual US growing region of Connecticut). This is joined by an Ecuadorian maduro binder and a hearty selection Nicaraguan fillers. These dark and rich tobaccos blend together to produce a gritty and beautiful cigar with a full-bodied, full-flavored profile. Punchy flavors are quick to jump onto the palate, allowing notes of chili spice, earth, mineral, dark fruit liqueurs, and espresso to shine through in this expert blend.
If Jacobs Ladder don't awaken the palate, ain't nothin' will!
