To the diehard liga fan, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust was a project that couldn’t come soon enough—it was only a matter of the “when”, not “if”. Of course, fans of this new company didn’t know exactly what it was they were waiting for, only that the man behind the project would deliver. We’re speaking of Mr. Steve Saka, former CEO of Drew Estate—playing a part in Drew Estate’s legendary Liga Privada cigars. And when Steve stepped down from Drew Estate in 2013, fans eagerly anticipated his return to the industry… that time has come.
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is the name of the new company, having an old school, Cubanesque vibe with an emphasis on authenticity, quality, and admiration for the craft—we’d expect no less. The first cigar? Sobremesa—a cigar that completely takes on the look of a pre-embargo cigar presentation. With Sobremesa, Steve has spared no expense in crafting a truly sophisticated blend—in fact, it’s the motto of his new company - “Puros Sin Compromiso,” translating to “Cigars Without Compromise.”
Sobremesa debuts in 6 sizes (with more to follow), all which have been carefully blended to provide their own unique differences to best showcase the vitola. The cigars are rolled at Joya de Nicaragua in Estelí, the oldest Nicaraguan factory. Steve has selected a diverse blend of some of the most premium tobaccos available, experimenting with over 40 blends before discovering the final product. The final blend features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Mexican binder, and a complex filler blend of 4 Nicaraguan leafs and an American Broadleaf Ligero.
This is a truly refined and sophisticated blend worthy of any cigar enthusiast's humidor. But act fast, as supplies have been limited due to the demanding qualities of the premium tobaccos used. Only 1,000 boxes are being produced per month, and will not last long on our shelves!
