E.P. Carrillo Pledge Purple

Casa Carrillo's Perez-Carrillo Pledge Purple cigar takes the foundation of the original Pledge and gives it some added age, built around one of the blend’s most important components. Rather than reworking the cigar from the ground up, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo leaned back into the element that helped define the original and gave it even more time to mature, resulting in a release that feels familiar in name but more developed overall.

Crafted at Casa Carrillo’s factory in the Dominican Republic, Pledge Purple uses the same Connecticut-grown Havana-seed wrapper from Dunn & Foster that appeared on the original Pledge, only now with nearly a decade of age to its credit. Beneath that is a revised interior recipe of Mexican binder and Nicaraguan fillers from Condega, Estelí, and Ometepe. That combination keeps the blend rooted in the darker, richer style that made Pledge stand out in the first place, while adding a slightly different structure through the core tobaccos.

On the palate, expect a full-bodied smoke with a dense, polished profile of earth, dark cocoa, roasted nuts, black coffee, and stone fruit through the finish. The aged wrapper brings added smoothness and composure to the experience, helping the cigar feel rich without turning harsh. For hobbyists who appreciated the original Pledge and want to see that same wrapper in a more mature, limited expression, Pledge Purple offers a deeper look at what time can do to an already proven formula.
