The Arturo Fuente Unnamed Reserve has always carried an air of mystery, and the 2021 release only adds to its legend. First debuting back in 2012, this series has never been about a single cigar, but rather a collection that appears and disappears—each return as highly anticipated as the last. After several years on hiatus, the Unnamed Reserve reemerged in September 2021, bringing back its celebrated 5 ¾ x 48 Grand Corona vitola. Dressed in a sun grown rosado wrapper over a core of Dominican binder and fillers, these cigars were actually rolled in 2016, meaning they reach your humidor with five full years of natural aging before you even light up.
Production was kept intentionally limited, with just 1,000 boxes of 20 cigars released worldwide. Each one comes carefully presented in cellophane stamped with “ProducXion 2016,” a subtle yet powerful reminder of its unique aging process. From the moment you slide off the cedar sleeve and remove the black foot ribbon, you’re greeted by a reddish-brown wrapper with an inviting texture and aroma. Light cedar, sweet pastry notes, and a touch of pepper set the stage, while the construction and draw showcase Fuente’s impeccable craftsmanship.
On the palate, the Unnamed Reserve 2021 is a masterclass in evolution. It opens with familiar Dominican flavors—earth, cedar, and gentle spice—before layering in white pepper, creamy textures, and subtle touches of tang and mineral complexity. Midway through, the cigar settles into a harmonious balance of pastry sweetness and pepper, offering moments of dry, pretzel-like flavors that give way to multigrain bread and toasted wheat. While hints of chalk and mineral appear from time to time, the overall journey remains engaging and refined, finishing at a medium-plus body with approachable strength. A true collector’s release, the Arturo Fuente Unnamed Reserve 2021 is both a nod to the past and a treasure for the future.
