Fans of Cubariqueño's police-themed Protocol line have come to expect heavy-hitting, dare we say, just experiences for those seeking craft-minded flavor output. But while the company's first two offerings (Protocol Blue, Protocol Red) were fuller in body, the Protocol Themis—the company's junior-year release—opted to fill a noticeable gap in the Protocol lineup: a soft/nuanced Connecticut.
Protocol Themis is named for William Agathis (the silent partner in Cubariqueño) and his Greek decent. Therefore, the name draws from Greek mythology and the Titan goddess of divine law and order (maintaining the brand's focus on law enforcement).
At one time or another, no matter how aggressive a brand's reputation, any well-rounded outfit must showcase their take on the famed Connecticut Shade cigar style. For Protocol, this manifested itself in the form of a Nicaraguan-based blend topped with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. Differing from the delicate nature of classic Connecticuts, the Protocol Themis is much more full in flavor. Where Connecticuts of old were often reserved for morning smoking sessions with a cup of coffee, Themis performs admirably long into the day, showing a medium body and creamy flavors of buttered crackers, punchy white pepper, aromatic florals, citrus, and loads of vanilla.
