The Protocol Crime Scene Unit cigar is a tribute to those who operate behind the scenes, gathering truth from ashes and aftermath. Staying true to the brand’s law enforcement theme, it honors the forensic specialists who work quietly and precisely in the pursuit of justice.
This marks the first time Protocol has used a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper—an achievement years in the making for founder Juan Cancel, with help from industry mentor A.J. Fernández. The blend features a San Andrés maduro binder and Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo fillers from Estelí and Jalapa. Rolled in a 6½″ × 50 toro format at the fan-favorite La Zona factory in Nicaragua, the cigar was blended in collaboration with Héctor J. Alfonso Sr. (of Espinosa Cigars fame) to deliver balance and grit.
Lighting up the Crime Scene Unit reveals a dense, flavorful smoke led by notes of dark chocolate, charred oak, earth, and black pepper. A creamy texture weaves through the profile, softening just enough to let the bolder elements shine. It’s a cigar built for structure and depth, much like the work that inspired it.
