The Great Smoke 2023 Update

The Great Smoke 2023: Membership Has Its Privileges

The Great Smoke season is officially underway, so we thought we’d do a little recap/update on our favorite event of the year. The Great Smoke itself runs from March 16th-19th which is just 59 short days away at the time of writing. As TGS aficionados know, a big part of The Great Smoke mystique comes from the TGS exclusive cigars which are released one at a time, in 2-week intervals, leading up to the event and are available only to TGS in person or virtual ticket holders. The exclusive smokes are just part of the picture though, of course. Ideally, we hope you’re lucky enough to experience the event as a whole, because that’s what The Great Smoke is all about. The experience. Whether you’re fortunate enough to attend in-person or one of the select crowd joining us with Virtual Tickets, if you’re anything like us, this is one of the highlights of your cigar-smoking year.

TGS 2023 Exclusive Cigars are Still Accessible

If you have somehow managed to avoid purchasing your tickets for The Great Smoke up until this point, then this article will surely convince you it’s time to pull the trigger. We hate to rub it in, but DTT-EX-127 is sold out at this point. But…there’s still time to get your foot in the door so you don’t miss out on the remaining yet-to-be-released The Great Smoke exclusive cigars. We think it’s a no brainer, especially given the fact that TGS 2023 Virtual Event Tickets grant you an all-access pass to the exclusive cigars and swag from the comfort of your favorite leather armchair.

Steve Saka, of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust.

Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust DTT-EX-127 – Jan 4th

The first of our The Great Smoke 2023 exclusives dropped on Jan 4th of this year and was revealed as the Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust DTT-EX-127. DTT-EX-127 was born of an experimental blend engineered with great care by none other than DT&T’s founder, Master Blender Steve Saka. These exotic sticks are assembled using sample crop of a new Habanesis tripa seed varietal grown in the Jalapa Valley of Nicaragua first harvested in January 2021 with a tiny amount of “penny” seedleaf for a hint of pepper.

The unique flavor has been described as “Mexican Chocolate flavor with a distinct sweet cinnamon back note on the palate”. Mr. Saka characterizes DTT-EX-127 as overall medium plus in body and smooth, rich, and unique with just the right touch of spice. The story behind how this rare and exotic seed strain found its way into the talented hands of DT&T’s found and master blender is a interesting one, you can read more about that on The Great Smoke Event Releases page.

Alec and Bradley Rubin of Alec Bradley Cigars.

Alec Bradley Cigars Krewe – Jan 18th

The next very special cache of TGS exclusive cigars is less that 48 hours away from release as of this writing. Krewe by Alec & Bradley Rubin of Alec Bradley Cigars drops on this Wednesday, Jan 18th. Here’s what we’re allowed to say at this point. Like the other TGS exclusive cigars, Alec Bradley Cigar’s Krewe is a very limited production with only 300 bundles (of 10 cigars each) being produced.

Krewe is presented in 7 x 48 Churchill size with a superb wrapper sourced from Trojes, Honduras, a region known for some of the finest tobacco in the world. Beneath this tasty wrapper lies a double binder from Esteli and Jamastran adding depth and complexity. Finally, an equal amount of love was given to selecting filler, which is comprised of Trojes Ligero C-98, Jalapa Viso C-98, and Trojes Viso C-99. We can say no more than that—you’ll have to acquire your own to learn about the unique flavor profile, or else risk living vicariously through those of us who do.
