By Eli “Sarge” Vidal

Appearance & Construction:

The Oliva Serie V Melanio 4 x 60 Limited Edition is a beauty to behold. Encased in an exquisite Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, this cigar is a testament to the company’s excellent craftsmanship.

The wrapper is rich, dark, and smooth to the touch, with minimal veins. Although it is not officially called a Melanio NUB, the cigar’s 4 x 60 dimensions lend it a robust, hefty feel in hand.

It is perfectly rolled, ensuring a great smoke right off the bat, a distinctive trait that Oliva was targeting when creating the cigar best part, which is considered the 2nd and Final Thirds of the cigar i.e., the Nub of the Cigar.

Pre-light Experience:

The pre-light aroma is a complex combination of earthiness, nuts, and a hint of sweet cocoa. Upon cold draw, there’s a delightful taste of spice and leather, indicating a promise of rich flavors to come.

Flavor Profile:

Lighting the Oliva Serie V Melanio Limited Edition is an exquisite sensory experience. It opens with a burst of pepper and spice, which is balanced perfectly with undertones of sweet cocoa.

As the smoke progresses, it reveals intricate layers of earthiness, leather, and a hint of dark chocolate. The flavors are full-bodied and robust yet superbly balanced, offering a complex smoking experience that caters to both seasoned and novice cigar enthusiasts.

Burn & Draw:

The burn of the Melanio 4 x 60 is commendable. Despite its thicker ring gauge, it burns evenly and consistently throughout the smoke, showcasing its superb construction. The draw is equally impressive, providing just the right resistance to ensure a smooth, cool smoke.

Overall Experience

The Oliva Serie V Melanio 4 x 60 Limited Edition is a cigar that commands attention. It delivers on all fronts, offering a complex flavor profile, excellent construction, and an unbeatable smoking experience.

The cigar’s limited edition status adds an extra layer of allure to this already fantastic cigar. It’s a true embodiment of Oliva’s reputation for quality and consistency, making it a worthwhile addition to any humidor.
