Longtime fans of Matt Booth and his nonconforming Room101 brand look back on the company's pivotal Namakubi release with a fond eye. Translating to mean freshly severed head, of all things, the cigar first hit shelves in 2011, perfectly capturing the growing desire for craft cigars and injecting Room101's bold visual aesthetic, amounting to one of the most legendary releases of the era.

And though the Namakubi has long since been retired from Room101's lineup, cigar fanatics have eagerly awaited the brand's return, arriving in 2021 in celebration of Namakubi's 10th anniversary. Company owner, Matt Booth, did not take the task lightly, bringing out perhaps the most premium packaging and tobacco selections seen from Room101 to date. Differing from the Honduran roots of the original, Namakubi 2021 is rolled by the craft-minded artisans of Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic. Brining the concept back to life, an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper was chosen, combined with a Honduran binder and fillers of Honduras and the DR.

While Room101's Namakubi is slated for annual/ongoing production, it is the Namakubi 2021 Limited Edition that has collectors and nostalgic enthusiasts most excited. This first run is limited to 1,001 boxes of 10 cigars, expertly rolled in a 5½" x 50 perfecto size known as Ranfla.

    John Caro - Room 101 Namakubi Ranfla
    Not as good as the original red/black release from 2011, this cigar falls a bit flat. Good pepper on the retrohale and the draw lends an earthy note with the addition of cedar and damp leather. This cigar opens up for a better overall experience with a little aging in your humidor.

    I love the packaging and moments of good flavors but I had to relight it a few times and part of it were just bland.
