Cohiba Nicaragua

Cohiba Nicaragua

Colloquially referred to as “the red dot,” Cohiba cigars are known, outside their Cuban counterparts, for their long heritage of Dominican refinement. But in recent years, the brand has expanded the line to include a dark and oily Broadleaf maduro, a rum barrel-aged offering, and the ultra-premium (and experimental) Luxury Selection.

But one area that had been inexplicably left untouched was the high intensity of modern Nicaraguan tobacco. This all changed in 2014 with the introduction of Cohiba Nicaragua.

For the first time, a Cohiba cigar has been crafted in the untamed landscape of Nicaragua. Using tobaccos of two of the country’s most famed regions (Jalapa and Estelí), Cohiba Nicaragua showcases a more intense iteration of this classic brand than had been previously known. Surprisingly, the blend starts in Honduras, where a sun-grown Colorado Oscuro-shade leaf has been selected for the wrapper. The binder incorporates a Nicaraguan Jalapa leaf, which encloses an all-Nicaraguan filler of Estelí and Jalapa.

The end result is a perfect harmony of Nicaraguan spice and refined balance. Cohiba Nicaragua manages to display delicate spices, aromatic cedar, and astringent anise, brought to balance by a wide variety creamy chocolates, caramel, and dry, dark chocolate powder. A fun ride that begins on the mild/medium side and ends in the medium/full strength territory!

Customer Reviews

  • Michael Lanier - Cohiba Nicaragua N4 7/8 x 50 Corona
My favorite in this line are the ones in the 5 pk tins. The are perfect for winter when you want a cigar but it's just too cold outside. And if I'm really enjoying myself, I'll fire up a 2nd one.
  • Don Jones - Cohiba Nicaragua N5.25 x 54 Toro
Not a bad cigar, a bit more spicy than my usual smokes, but a good cigar nonetheless. A bit overpriced in my opinion, but not so much that it should prevent you from trying it.
  • David Braunfotel - Cohiba Nicaragua N5.25 x 54 Toro
One of the better Cohiba’s in my opinion. The Nicaraguan blend is very nice on the palette. I highly recommend this over most of the other options.
  • Tony McDowell - Cohiba Nicaragua N5.25 x 54 Toro - 5 Pack
Very rich and earthy like you would expect from a Nicaraguan cigar. Great quality and burn but not for the faint of heart.
