With one of the largest, most beloved portfolios in the premium cigar biz, Alec Bradley has somehow managed to fly under the radar all these years without offering a Broadleaf-wrapped blend. Setting out to remedy this glaring omission, the company has gone above and beyond, growing their own proprietary leaf and showcasing not one but TWO selections of Broadleaf! That's right, it's the Double Broadleaf by Alec Bradley.

The Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf cigar falls under the company's popular Experimental Series, where they're afforded more freedom to work with unique tobacco styles, factories, and more. With the Double Broadleaf, the cigar shows off the company's first-growth Honduran Broadleaf tobacco, transporting the traditional Connecticut seed to Alec Bradley's familiar terroir of Honduras. This tobacco proved too tasty to simply be used once, so the leaf is featured on both the wrapper AND binder. The Double Broadleaf recipe is joined by a second binder from Nicaragua and fillers of Nicaragua and Honduras.

It takes the experimental to bring out new and innovative flavor styles, and the Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf does just that! This hefty nod to the broad(leaf) is medium-full to full in body, booming with flavors of gritty earth, French-press coffee, and spicy rye bread.

    This is the best cigar in the AB portfolio, competing with the Gatekeeper. A very typical Maduro in profile with plenty of chocolate, spice, leather and great smoke output. Nice cigar for those who prefer fuller sticks.

    Great smoke. Very unique flavor outside the norm for Alec Bradley cigars. Alec Bradley has delivered with another addition to the Experimental Series. The Double Broadleaf brings intense flavor outside Alec Bradley norms. Using proprietary Honduran Broadleaf throughout the wrapper and binder, the Double Broadleaf pushes limits and adds another wrinkle to the question of just how much Broadleaf tobacco cigar enthusiasts can handle (perhaps you can’t have too much Broadleaf?). Overall, the Double Broadleaf hits hard with salty earth, coffee, porter, malt, and rye bread flavors that are very enjoyable. If I had to rank the Experimental Series, this is number one, followed by Project 40 and then Project 40 Maduro. As with all other Experimental Series releases, this cigar brought happiness—and a pretty intense happiness at that.
